London Slough sleepout

Readypower team took part in the London Slough sleepout to raise money for a great cause.

On 23 November 2019, Readypower Group Team (Gerry, Rich, Daryl, James, Mandy and Erin) took part in the London Slough sleepout.

The shelter is open every year from December until the end of March. Guests receive breakfast, a warm evening meal and a place to sleep every night.

Volunteers work with clients to help find permanent accommodation and employment, a volunteer podiatrist helps to improve foot health and guests are offered new warm coats.

The funds raised in 2018 meant that:

  • 44 people were accommodated across a 3 month period
  • Six of these guests were victims of domestic violence and are now all in safe accommodation
  • Overall, 22 guests are now in settled accommodation

It costs £15 per person, per night to run the shelter.

Even a small donation can have a life-changing impact on a vulnerable person with no other sources of support in their life.

This year Readypower have smashed their £2,000 target and this will help get so many off the street from the end of December till the start of April.

Many of those helped, supported by counsellors and volunteers, will be able to use this time to secure a permanent home and employment. For some it will also enable them to get support to help them in their battle against drink or drugs and/or out of abusive situations.

It really does make a difference – by simply trading 1 night ‘sleeping out’ so that they can ‘sleep in’ and hopefully permanently in a safe secure and comfortable environment free from the troubles of the street.
