Height and Slew Stop Modifications Increase Scope of RRV Work

Recognising the limitations of use of the current fleet of Road/Rail 360 Excavators nationwide, we have pioneered the design, development and successful VAB Approval of 2 separate movement restriction systems with failsafe measures designed in. These were produced to address the issue of contact with the Overhead Lines by RRVs that occur for many contractors nationwide, often resulting in down-time during the possession due to inspection and often repair of the catenary wire. That combined with the need to have a RRV fleet that enabled work to still go ahead in a variety of possession types has lead to these 2 systems becoming a reality.

 

We have the following RRVs fitted with these new systems:

Terex 2804 Gigarailer & Gigagrailer 12

The Gigarailer is Readypower’s most powerful machine yet.

Weighing a formidable 28 tonnes and fitted with heavy duty road axles, densely filled chassis weights and counterweight along with specially engineered soft foam fill super-single tyres, this machine is capable of unrivalled stability when lifting up to 15 tonnes (subject to local regulations).

 

The purpose made chassis with extreme duty road axles married to the well-proven Terex 1604 road rail upper and  lightweight front-end equipment enables not only a superior lifter, but also an accomplished digging machine. The Gigarailer truly is the pinnacle of superior engineering.

 

Full attachment interchangeability between the Gigarailer and Case 988 Road/Rail machines.

 

Gigarailer 12

Due to the success of the Gigarailer, the RRV has evolved to cope competently with a variety of lifting scenarios that present themselves on a routine basis for both track and signalling renewals contracts.

                      

The Gigarailer 12 has an amended boom geometry with an underslung hydraulic cylinder providing the outwards lifting moment for the dipper arm. The dipper is available in 2 lengths; 1.8m & 4.0m with a LOLER certificate for the RRV in each configuration. With the 4.0m dipper attached the Gigarailer 12 is capable of lifting 3 tonnes at a height of 10m. View the Gigarailer 12 lifting overhead boom drawing here. 

 

This figure stays the same regardless of the sector of movement due to the stability of the Gigarailer and the fact that the SWL at this height is limited by the arm hydraulics.
